A clinical Laboratory Director's permit issued by the NYS Education Dept., or be eligible for it; an MD degree or Ph.D. degree in the physical sciences with extensive experience in the technical and administrative operations of a Clinical or Public Health Laboratory; strong verbal and communication skills; experience in both a microbiology and environmental laboratory.

Job Description

Large New York health agency is seeking an experienced and highly motivated executive to serve as the First Deputy Director in its Public Health Laboratory PHL. As one of the largest public health reference laboratories in the country, it provides state-of-the-art laboratory testing for health care organizations, patients, environmental samples and agents that may be related to bio or chemical-terrorism. The position is responsible for: ensuring that the PHLs mission and goals are met; coordinating the activities of the different sections of the PHL; exploring new technologies, procedures and computer applications to improve efficiency; developing policies, procedures, and protocols for the lab; ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies requirements; working with directors of other agency departments such as communicable diseases, STD, TB, HIV, Lead Poisoning prevention, and food safety to support their activities; liaising with external agencies such as New York State Dept. of Health, CDC, FBI, and other local agencies; and working to recruit, retain and develop professional staff. Qualifications are: A clinical Laboratory Directors permit issued by the NYS Education Dept., or be eligible for it; an MD degree or Ph.D. degree in the physical sciences; extensive experience in the technical and administrative operations of a Clinical or Public Health Laboratory; strong verbal and communication skills; experience in both a microbiology and environmental laboratory.
